THE FUTURE IN TIRE MOLD CLEANING IS HERE: “K.L.R.S.” (KEYMICAL LASER RESONANCE SYSTEM)

At the end of 2017 Keymical filed an international patent for KLRS technology.

WHAT IS KLRS?
KLRS is a new revolutionary mold cleaning system which combines many advanced technologies such as:
  • Laser
  • Keymical Resonance technology (patented)
  • 3D vision system
  • A.I. vision system (patented)
HOW DOES KLRS WORK?
Below are reported the operations that are done since the segment is inserted inside the laser cabin:
  1. The segment is clamped in a particular press and a resonance modulator, thanks to its software, scans all its possible frequencies, until it finds the right resonance point. Once the correct resonance point is found, the modulator starts transmitting a vibration at the same resonance found before. The vibration has enough energy to remove rubber compound residuals from spring vents and venting channels, reliving them.
  2. The 3D vision system identifies the segment geometries, sending them to the 6 axis anthropomorphic robot, which is equipped with a laser scanning head.
  3. Following the geometries obtained by the vision system, the robot moves the scanning head in order to strike every segment part, including the complicated patterns of winter molds, cleaning the segment surface perfectly.
  4. Laser and resonance work simultaneously to reduce working time.
  5. Once the laser and resonance processes are completed, the A.I. vision system identifies which spring vents are still blocked, and shows the operator, on a screen, a sector map indicating the spring vents that need manual action.
  6. When all the segments have been cleaned, the robot moves to the sidewalls area and cleans them once at a time.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO DAMAGE A MOLD WHILE USING KLRS?
The laser power has been set up to clean the tire mold (aluminium and steel surface) safely. The same segment/sidewall can be cleaned by our laser more than 100 times without causing any damage.
Laboratory tests certify an aluminium surface roughness of 3,7µm before laser cleaning. After 100 laser cleaning processes the aluminium surface roughness increased just up to 4,2µm. 
KLRS can be also used to remove Teflon coating by means of specific parameters.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CLEAN A COMPLETE MOLD?
To clean a complete mold composed of 8/9 segments and 2 sidewalls it takes about 60 minutes if it is a summer mold and 90 minutes if it is a winter mold. (The exact processing time depends on the dirt level and the mold geometry). 
The reported time includes the complete cleaning of the mold (SURFACE – SPRING VENTS – BACK CHANNELS).
DOES KLRS HAVE A LIMIT FOR TIRE MOLD DIMENSIONS?
KLRS is designed to clean passenger and truck molds.
HOW MUCH SPACE DOES KLRS NEED?

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE NECESSARY TO MANAGE KLRS?
One operator per shift is enough to manage the machine (loading/unloading of the trolleys, spring vents' check).
ARE THERE ANY POSSIBLE "HEALTH & SAFETY" RISKS?
KLRS is placed inside a cabin which isolates the machine from the operator’s working environment. The fumes released during the process are extracted by an aspiration/filtration system. The access inside the cabin is possible only when the machine is not working.
HOW MUCH MAINTENANCE DOES KLRS REQUIRE? WHAT DOES IT NEED TO WORK?
KLRS requires very little maintenance and it works using only electricity and compressed air. The installed power is 17.7 KW. The only waste produced are the filtration cartridges of the aspiration system.
WHICH KIND OF DIRT DOES KLRS REMOVE?
It removes almost every kind of dirt such as organic and inorganic rubber compounds, silicon realising agents, inks, paints, unvulcanized rubber, rust, etc.
HOW CAN I VERIFY IF THE SPRING VENTS ARE STILL BLOCKED AFTER THE CLEANING? AND HOW CAN I PROTECT SIDEWALLS BEFORE STORING THEM?
“Keyflow Station” is a dedicated area where the operator finishes the cleaning process of the mold. On one side of the area, it is possible to insert the sidewall trolley and the operator can apply manually the rust preventative oil: an aspiration wall guarantees a healthy environment.
On the other side a monitor helps the operator by showing him a real picture of the just cleaned segment, where the spring vents that need to be manually verified are indicated.
